Kennack Sands is a quieter, more tucked-away beach on the Lizard Peninsula, known for its clear water,
rugged scenery, and a laid-back feel that is a world away from Cornwall’s busier surf hubs. It is the sort
of place that suits surfers who enjoy a more natural setting and do not mind that conditions can be more
changeable than at the big, exposed Atlantic beaches.
For surf, Kennack can offer fun sessions when the swell direction and wind line up, with peaks that shift
across the bay and wave shapes that can range from mellow to punchy depending on the tide. It is a spot that
often rewards patience and observation, so it helps to spend a few minutes watching the sets, checking how
the waves are breaking, and choosing the most workable section before paddling out.
Kennack also lends itself to a full coastal day, not just a quick surf. The surrounding headlands and rock
formations give it a more adventurous feel, and the bay can be especially appealing if you like mixing
surfing with exploring the shoreline between sessions. It suits surfers who want a calmer atmosphere, enjoy
something a little more off the beaten track, and are happy to take the beach as it comes rather than
expecting guaranteed conditions every time.
